RECIPE

Flatbread pizza

parent and child class

Thank you for booking my kid's flatbread pizza cooking class with me! I love to get the kids involved in cooking at an early age, and this is a fun class to start. I love teaching it, and I hope you and your child will love it too.

This recipe will make 4 small pizzas - enough to feed my family of 2 adults and 2 small children. The pizza can be frozen for another day, as can the dough, should you not want as much.

EQUIPMENT -

  • clean work surface to knead and make on

  • Sieve

  • large bowl

  • Wooden spoon

  • Rolling pin

  • Knife

  • Large frying pan, or griddle pan

  • 4 x Baking trays

  • Tin Foil (if you dont have enough baking trays)

INGREDIENTS

  • 350g Self raising flour, plus extra for dusting

  • 350g natural yoghurt, Coconut yoghurt will substitute for dairy allergies

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil

  • 8 heaped tablespoons tomato puree, or you might have your own pizza sauce!

  • 4 balls of motzarella, or grated cheese of you choice

  • Selection of prepared toppings of your choice, e.g. basil, ham, olives, peppers, pineapple, mushrooms, salami, capers, dried oregano

METHOD

1.     Preheat oven to 220 + highest setting it can go

2.     Sieve the flour and the baking powder in to a bowl

3.     Add the natural yoghurt to the flour and combine together with a spoon

4.     Start to use your hand to bring it together in to one ball and knead for 2 minutes, you might need to add more flour.

5.     Divide in to 4 portions

6.     Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out on a flour dusted work top

7.     ASK AN ADULT - Put the frying pan, on to a high heat and cook the flat bread for one minute on each side.

8.     Transfer the flat bread to baking trays or tin foil sheets

9.     Using the back of a spoon spread the tomato puree on to the pizza base – 2 tablespoons per pizza

10.  Break up the cheese and spread over the pizza

11.  Add the toppings of your choice, see what pattern and picture you can make.

12.  Cook in the hot oven for 10 minutes

ENJOY!

NOTES:

The dough can be used for flat bread, just cook it on the hob for a 2 minutes longer.

The pizza bases can be frozen once partly cooked – ready for the next time.
