BISCUIT BONANZA

Thank you for booking my kid's Biscuit Bonanza cooking class with me! I love to get the kids involved in cooking at an early age, and this is a fun class to start. I love teaching it, and I hope you and your child will love it too.

We will make a simple biscuit dough and then get creative with the types of biscuits we cna make from it!

EQUIPMENT -

  • 2 x baking trays

  • Baking paper

  • Mixing bowl

  • Sieve

  • Wooden spoon

  • Fork 

  • oven 


INGREDIENTS 125g butter – soft, at room temperature

  • 125g butter - softened, room temperature

  • 250g plain flour

  • 1 and a half tablespoon baking powder

  • 125g sugar

  • 1 egg

  • Pinch of salt

OPTIONAL FILLINGS AND TOPPINGS

  • jam

  • Nuts

  • Raisins or other dried fruit 

  • Fresh berries or fruit

  • Smarties or chocolate chips

  • Chocolate – for melting and putting on top. 


METHOD

1.     Preheat oven to 200*C or 180 fan.

2.     Beat the butter and the sugar

3.     Add the eggs and beat in

4.     Sift in the flour, salt and baking powder

5. Form in to balls for the biscuits and get creative

  • Fork biscuit

  • Toppings

  • things hidden inside

  • thumb biscuit with jam

  • shapes and faces!

6. Bake in the oven until golden

7. Leave to cool on trays for 5 minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack (if you have one).

NOTES!

Some of the additional flavours that you could also add for next time! The list is endless!

  • Cinnamon and allspice

  • cocoa powder - just swap a spoon of flour for a spoon of cocoa

  • vanilla essence

  • mint, and mint chocolate

  • Lemon or orange zest

  •  Different fruit - eg. rhubarb, apple, pear, blueberries,

  • Different dried fruits

  • different nuts -eg. pecans, almonds, pinenuts,

  • Different jam fillings
